New friend notifications on LinkedIn, weekly event newsletters, twitter updates… the list goes on. Automated e-mail updates find a way to our inboxes. They present a dilemma. Suscribe to too many webservices and you may soon find that such updates are clogging your inbox, just like spam. They are unlike spam in a way because at some point you want to read them, just not right now. Computer geeks have come up with a term for this kind of troublesome “non-spam spam” : bacn (pronounced bacon). As in, bacn is better than spam but still cloggs your inbox. The term has been picked up by several bloggers since it was mentioned at a conference.

Today was a “special” day for me and Brik (my colleague at Indie Group). We both did an internship for 3 months (studying at the PIH in Kortrijk) and both got to stay at Indie Group for just a year now. Hired the same day, so today was our first birthday! We were looking for a way to say thank you to everyone so we made these cute indie papertoys for everyone and went for some croissants.
If you want to make one for yourself, go to speakerdog.com. You can find a bunch of series there. We downloaded the template and customized it with a face and the indie colors.
Here’s an impression :

Last weekend I bought my ticket for Flash on the beach. Together with two indiegroup colleagues I’m staying for four days in Brighton, UK to attend one ofthe biggest flash conferences in Europe. What a line-up, you can check the speakers here. We still have to figure out whether we go by boat or by train. And if anyone knows a little hotel in Brighton, please let me know. Or other tips, like restaurants and bars !!
