Read and parse an atom feed in flash

I just wrote a tutorial on how to parse an atom feed in flash. I used the twitter search API for my jesus on twitter example. Find out how I did it!

Search for Jesus on Twitter via Atom Feed

Some little wtf-project, making use of the twitter search API and reading & parsing an Atom Feed into Flash (or Flex) (Actionscript3).

The results are sometimes fun to read, here are some tweets that passed in just a couple of minutes:

Jesus, what’s wrong with you?”
Jesus had weed carriers — they were called disciples back then ROFL”
Jesus dude, hope youre doing fine”
Jesus Christ. That four hour nap at 6 pm was not a good thing”
“I bet Jesus is Tupac’s nigga. Bet he got to Heaven and was all like, “Whaddup my nigga!?” And Jesus was like, “Whaddup my nigga!!”

Screencast Atlas project (Flash/AS3)

I made a screencast of a new project we’ve done at Televic Education (together with Indie Group).  It’s built with flash and written in AS3, we also used AMF remoting for communication. It’s an online project where you can load maps that consist of different themes and layers that you can hide/show. It’s built to use on smartboards and interactive whiteboards, but you can just use it online as well. It’s built for 2 educational publishers Plantyn Belgium and Wolters Noordhoff (The Netherlands).

View the screencast here

-This is my first screencast (after 23 attempts, I got one that I think is pretty much ok, still need to work on my articulation though ;)-

Developing KISS principles - intro

With over 2 years of developing software for both Indie Group and Televic Education one of the biggest problems we’ve always encountered was keeping a product/project simple. First of maybe you are familiar with the term KISS: Keep It Simple Stupid! I always say: Keep It Super Simple! I picked up this term up for the first time when a basketball coach said to me I had to keep everything I did on the court Super Simple when he thought I forced things too much. In the next few posts I’m going to explain a few KISS principles that can help with developing and maintaining an online software product/project. Anyway these posts are meant to open up the discussion, I don’t want to state the perfect way to optimize an online software product, I’m just saying there _is_ a cure for the “complexitis” disease like I like to call it.
