Apple released right after the keynote on mac world a new firmware update for the iphone/ipod touch (version 1.1.3). A lot of things I mentioned in the previous posts were fixed and overall I think this update was necessary to get rid of some bugs and add some new features. I also bought the software update from iTunes (maps, mail, notes, stocks, weather,…). Maps is good but can never find my current location. I think this is probably more a Europe thing cause it locates you by the nearest wifi hotspot that has been indexed. The mail app rocks, had to search for a while to get my outgoing mail settings correct but now it works wonderful. Weather and stocks are not really usefull for me. Notes is cute.
I like the way the apps communicate with each other. Place an adress from someone in your contacts directly to maps, add a person in a mail you’re typing, open an url that’s been sent by mail, … They work together, and that’s very powerfull.
You can also add bookmarks to your homescreen and customize it. Just tap an item long enough and the icons will start shaking. Drag and place them where you want, press the home button and they’re saved. You can have more then one page on the desktop where you can scroll through.
I wrote a little tutorial on how to create a iphone/ipod touch website bookmark icon on your home screen
So I could start synchronizing iTunes with my iPod, everything went smooth and at an acceptable speed. While exploring I ran into some positive things but found a few downsides as well.
Positive vibrations:

overall intuativity of the navigation - wicked multi-touch-screen, menu’s, options, flow, photo zoom

battery - battery runs out faster with wifi on, quite a big difference but battery life is good
extra applications (agenda & contacts - which you can sync with outlook, youtube - big!, photos - resizing is killer)

wifi + surfing with safari (wow didn’t expect it to be this good, setting up the wifi is piece of cake, but lost a star on not including (or a possibility to install) the flash player plugin - boooo! - 3 stars (should of been 4!)
Damn, yesterday I had this strange urge to buy something, don’t know why. Something told me it was time to buy myself a nice gift. I’ve been planning to buy an ipod a long time ago, but never got to it. I’m always questioning myself if I really need something like that. Turns out I don’t need one. But it’s just tons of fun having one.
So I went to the Fnac-store (which btw was ridiculously crowded) in Gent and bought the 299€ iPod touch 8Gb version (there’s also a 16Gb version available, for 100€ extra). I found out later when you order it from the Apple store you get a free inscription on the back of your ipod, but too late in my case. This is the one:
