Setting Adobe AIR MIME-type on IIS

When you’re getting a #2032 error from an adobe air badge, there are 2 reasons for getting this error.

First of all make sure you’re using a full path to the AIR file, eg http://www.ploem.be/airfile.air

And secondly you’ll need to set the mime type on your server for AIR applications. You can find out how to set an adobe air mime-type on IIS!

Indie Group created a customizable AIR game built with the Adobe Air SDK

I love Adobe Air

Love is in the air at Indie Group. Can you feel it? No? Not yet? Play the Indie Group Love is in the Air-game and share your love

Indie Group built a little application/game and used Adobe Air for a first demo project. We used flex builder 3 (application), flash CS3 (little game made by ward with papervision) and the AIR SDK. There was also a .net-part (built by itto) and the pictures of the Indie Crew were taken by naikoo*.

Next to some smaller reasons there were two big reasons why we choose to use Adobe AIR-technology:

> integrating drag and drop functionality from the desktop/user pc
> possibility to build a customizable AIR file with specific content on the server with the Adobe SDK

The goal of the application is that people start creating their own game (with their own chosen pictures) and send it out to their friends (etc..). The most recent version is the version with the Valentine skin (yea baby!) which can be found on http://www.indiegroup.be/air (dutch). This game has been sent out to all of Indie Group clients with the promise if they can come up with their own idea for an Adobe Air application, we will create the best idea we receive for free!

Find my most recent tutorial in the how to-section on How to … build an AIR application from bat file with the Adobe Air SDK.

iPod Touch from Apple - firmware update 1.1.3

Apple released right after the keynote on mac world a new firmware update for the iphone/ipod touch (version 1.1.3). A lot of things I mentioned in the previous posts were fixed and overall I think this update was necessary to get rid of some bugs and add some new features. I also bought the software update from iTunes (maps, mail, notes, stocks, weather,…). Maps is good but can never find my current location. I think this is probably more a Europe thing cause it locates you by the nearest wifi hotspot that has been indexed. The mail app rocks, had to search for a while to get my outgoing mail settings correct but now it works wonderful. Weather and stocks are not really usefull for me. Notes is cute.

I like the way the apps communicate with each other. Place an adress from someone in your contacts directly to maps, add a person in a mail you’re typing, open an url that’s been sent by mail, … They work together, and that’s very powerfull.

You can also add bookmarks to your homescreen and customize it. Just tap an item long enough and the icons will start shaking. Drag and place them where you want, press the home button and they’re saved. You can have more then one page on the desktop where you can scroll through.

I wrote a little tutorial on how to create a iphone/ipod touch website bookmark icon on your home screen

New tutorial : mac dmg installer

Maybe you’ve seen one of these “installers” for mac recently :

In the create section of this site find out how you can do that too!

New tutorial : smooth icon

I just finished a new tutorial on how to create a windows icon. I’ve seen many software tools to create and handle with these icons, and only few of them really did the job well. In this tutorial you can follow step by step the guide to create a decent icon that will give your cd-rom/application the look it deserves.

This is an example of a bad icon :

This is the icon we’re going to create :
